On February 22, 1964, at Green Valley Raceway near Wylie, TX, I watched a 15 minute race between a car just like this and a Chevrolet Super Light Corvette, driven by Delmo L. Johnson Jr. It was said Mr. Johnson had been bragging at a New Years cocktail party that the Super Light 'Vette could beat any car built running on a road course. Carroll Shelby called him a liar, and they agreed to a match race at the end of the upcoming SCCA Polar Prix event the next month. I particularly remember the velocity stacks extended above the bodywork, and the tail pipes. It was the first time I heard mention of "tuned resonance exhaust". The Cobra burned rubber on the starting grid while the Vette ran half way to the hairpin turn at the south end of the straight, then shifted gears and exited the hairpin just barely in the lead. After 15 minutes of running, Johnson and the Corvette were down by 7 laps.

Near identical to mine. Mine has red stripes in the side trim though. Driver's side outside mirror is on the fender, not the door. Mine also has an AM/FM mono radio

Is it possible these were made without the badging? My father bought my mother a car just like this but it did not have grand national anywhere on it that I recall. I believe it was either super or turbo charged. It did move!

Worst music ever at a car show

I had a friend in high school who's older cousin had an original one. He got it from the original owner in the mid 70's. A few years later, he drove home drunk and wrapped it around a concrete support of a bridge underpass. He survived, but the car didn't.

I got to watch the original Taska Ford Thunderbolt at Sanford ME when it was new. A very professional operation for it's day. Also saw their Mustang. The t bolt was the best stock I ever saw

On modern slicks they're good for 9 second quarter at 140 mph.

The history channel needs to do more shows like this today. The con course del elegance is properly anal stuff, they look at how the flats on the bolts are clocked with the frame or engine cases, ECT.
